Introduction to Friends Bible Study
Welcome!
Welcome to Friends Bible Study! Jesus quoted a verse from Deuteronomy in Matthew 4:4 when He said, “Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.”
God speaks to us through His Word and gives us life. One primary goal of Friends Bible Study is to receive life from God’s Word.
Another focus of FBS is to help disciples grow in Christ and to equip them to be effective and fruitful in every good work God has called them to as stated in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 "All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work."

Read, Write, Share, Listen
- READ. Read the chapter you are studying that week every day. For example, when studying John chapter 1, read that chapter every day. Please have a notebook and pen ready. (Of course, using your computer, iPad, or phone is fine.)
- WRITE. Answer 2-3 of the provided meditation questions each day. As you meditate on each passage, write down your insights, observations, and questions. Also, write your answers to the following questions each day: What is God saying to me through this passage? How will I Trust & Obey Jesus today?
- SHARE. Share from what you have written with your FBS partner daily (at least 3-5 times a week using LINE, WhatsApp, Messenger, etc. Also, share once a week face-to-face or by video call. This is one of the most important parts of processing and applying the word of God to our lives.
- LISTEN. After you have studied a passage, please listen to the audio commentary for those verses.

Some final tips!
Where to Start? We recommend starting your Friends Bible Study with the Gospel of John chapter 1. However, if your sharing partner or small group has already started (or are studying another book of the Bible) it is fine to join them. It is vital, however, to do it together!
Here are some tips as you start the FBS.
- SHARING THE WORD DAILY IS AN ESSENTIAL KEY TO Friends Bible Study. Pray that God will give you just the right person to be your FBS Sharing Partner.
- ASKING someone to be your sharing partner will be a huge blessing to them!
- Usually, it is adequate to share 3-4 sentences each day, although longer is fine.
- People just beginning to read the Bible should probably begin with Knowing God Bible Study.
- Participants need to commit at least 15-20 minutes daily to READ, WRITE, and SHARE.
- LISTENING to the audio commentary can be done while driving, taking the train, etc.

読む、書く、分かち合う、聞く

読む。その週に勉強する章を毎⽇読みます。例えば、ヨハネによる福⾳書第 1 章を勉強している場合は、その章を毎⽇読みます。ノートとペンを⽤意してください。(もちろん、パソコン、iPad、または携帯電話を使⽤しても構いません。)
2. 書く。毎⽇、⽤意された黙想の質問のうちの 2~3 問に答えてください。各箇所について黙想しながら、気づき、観察、質問を書き留めてください。また、次の質問に対する答えを毎⽇書いてください。この箇所を通して神様が⾃分に何を語っておられるか。今⽇、私はどのようにしてイエス様を信頼し従うか。
3. 分かち合う。 毎⽇、書いたことを FBS パートナーと分かち合ってください(少なくとも週に 3~5 回、LINE、WhatsApp、Messenger などを使⽤して)。また、週に⼀度は直接会ったり、ビデオ通話でシェアしましょう。これは、神の御⾔葉を私たちの⽣活に適⽤していく上で最も重要な部分のひとつです。
4. 聞く。 ある箇所を学んだら、その箇所のオーディオ解説を聞いてください。

どこから始めるか。 私たちは、フレンズ・バイプル・スタディーをヨハネによる福⾳書第 1 章から始めることをお勧めします。しかし、あなたの分かち合いのパートナーや⼩グループがすでに始めている場合(あるいは、他の聖書の書物を研究している場合)、彼らに加わることは問題ありません。ただ、⼀緒にやることが⾮常に重要なのです。
また、以下に、⼈々の質問や懸念事項について述べるいくつかの考えを列挙します。
